As always, so beautifully written. One thing I can offer, from being a parent for nearly 18 years, is that their needs/allegiances/confidences will shift and change over time. Some phases require a closer relationship with one parent, while others will see them shifting to the other. It's definitely a team effort and watching it all develop and change is both heartbreaking and joyful at the same time.
