One of my children had a penguin too, his name was Piplup and he had a small hat made that used to be a castle roof. We lost him multiple times and your recollection reminded me of those times. We once found a replacement, but he wasn't worn the same and couldn't replace the original Piplup.
I can't get over the name Piplup (I also can't believe Margaux has a chicken of the same name) and this little penguin's castle roof hat. A replacement isn't the same, as much as we try to love them into being so. Thanks for sharing. <3
My heart broke for Nadi, I remember I had a stuffed monkey that I loved and lost many times, just like Penguin. Hopefully Penguin is going to return home soon
Thanks, Lea. I surprised myself by how upsetting Penguin's absence has been for the entire family. We had a lucky ending (I wrote about it in today's letter). :]
I truly hope Penguin is found! Oh how my heart broke reading about it. I also didn’t know we could comment up until now for some reason! I enjoy your writings so much when I get a moment to read them so thank you for such beautiful writings & sharing them with us.
Thanks so much, Rebecca -- for reading, commenting, and your thoughts about Pen! I updated this story with an incredible (to us!) ending in today's letter. <3
I remember, whenever I was upset as a child, I would call out my lovey (dropped it in a taxi in another city, another country) and be heartbroken and unconsolable all over again. I feel her pain. I hope you find Pen-Pen ♥
Aw, Karine -- in a taxi in another country. That is heartbreaking. Our story took an unexpected lucky turn (I wrote about it in today's letter) -- and I hope it brings some solace to the little you who lost her lovey. <3
"Things become family because we care for them, because we choose to divest our finite energy away from one avenue and pour it into another. N loved Penguin into our family, caring for him as we care for her. She considered his feelings, as I do for her. I loved him because she did."
You touched my soul with this. I hope Penguin finds his way home.

We have a last, lasting, unfoxed chicken called Piplup! ☺️

Oh the penguin story is so heartbreaking and so good, too. That she is taking the drawing around… heart breaks.
It breaks!

Thank you 🥹 I'm so happy for her ♥
May Penguin find their way home and may there be solace for everyone feeling the ache of loss. Thank you for this beautiful writing!
Thank you, Sonia -- it means a great deal. <3

Thank you, Lorna. This comment means a lot to me. <3
Oh, my heart is breaking for N and Penguin! Maybe there’s still a chance. Buying The Father Christmas Letters now for my son.
Oh Ruth, you won't be disappointed. <3
